VSO UK (Volunteer Service Organisation for the UK) wanted a company blog to give a more personal feel to their overall mission, to use as a main recent news section, to promote their latest events and to share the activities and learnings from their many volunteers by promoting their own blogs. In general, they felt their current main site had so much on it, especially on the home page, that a lot of what their volunteers do day to day and the progress and difference they make in the communities they serve were getting lost. Basically, they wanted to tell a more human story about their work.
They asked for the blog to keep within the general look and feel of the current VSO branding, but be flexible enough to modify as they are in the middle of a branding revamp. Most of all, they wanted a design that was easy to navigate and to add to, no matter what the medium.
